Colonia, Yap. The 2018 MicroGames Organizing Committee has announced a series of Women in Sports Leadership presentations that will take place October 8 - 14, 2017 in schools and communities throughout Yap to provide information and encourage women and girls to get involved in sports and sports management.
Jennifer Chieng, the first female Olympic boxer to represent FSM at the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016 and gold medalist at the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua, New Guinea, and Baklai Temengil, Secretary General of the Palau National Olympic Committee Board and the first woman Vice President for the Oceania National Olympic Committee, will meet with local high school and college students, the Yap Women’s Association and other community-based women’s and youth associations during their stay.
“We are very excited and honored to welcome Secretary General Temengil and to have our native daughter, Jennifer, back home in Yap for this important event,” states Dee Libian, event organizer and member of the 2018 MicroGames Organizing Committee. “We encourage our youth to get involved in sport for the lifelong health benefits, and these two extraordinary, accomplished women are a great inspiration. From their own experiences, they will show women and girls how they can extend their interest in sports to include management and leadership.”
